Understanding naturopathic medicine
Learn about the philosophy behind Dr. Kan’s approach to care.

Care starts with understanding you
Dr. Kan’s approach emphasizes a personal connection, understanding each person’s circumstances, and helping patients make informed decisions about their health.
Six guiding principles
These principles describe a care philosophy; they do not establish that every naturopathic treatment is effective.
Support healing
Consider factors that support the body’s recovery.
Explore contributing causes
Look at possible contributors to a health concern alongside its symptoms.
Prioritize safety
Weigh potential benefits and harms when considering care options.
Teach and explain
Help patients understand their choices and participate in decisions.
Consider the whole person
Take personal circumstances and physical, emotional, social and environmental factors into account.
Emphasize prevention
Discuss risk factors and opportunities to support long-term health.
Thoughtful care, informed choices
Naturopathic medicine emphasizes understanding the whole person, supporting healthy habits, and tailoring care to individual needs. At Dr. Kan Wellness Center, recommendations bring this philosophy together with available scientific evidence, clinical judgment, and your health history and preferences.
When considering nutrition, supplements, or other approaches, Dr. Kan discusses their intended purpose, potential benefits, limitations, and relevant safety considerations—including possible interactions with medications. This helps you understand your options and participate actively in your care.
Naturopathic care complements your broader healthcare plan, with appropriate medical evaluation and coordination with other healthcare professionals when needed.
